Esi Afran Foundation was founded in 2011, to improve the lives of young women through education and training.

Since then we have broadened our approach and work increasingly on improving the standard of education in Ghana, by providing financial support and advice to other organizations that focus on education.

Our inspiration – the values of Esi Afran:

Mother of four, Esi Afran was a well known figure in the local community, and strongly believed that she (and everyone else) could make a valuable contribution to society, by supporting others to learn and grow. Esi was a passionate believer that young women should have access to education, to the highest levels where possible.

Founded in her memory some thirty years after her death, the Esi Afran Foundation built on a scholarship fund and was initiated by a childhood friend of Esi Afran, Mrs Josephine van Lare.  The foundation was developed in partnership with the Holy Child Past Students Association - year group of 1957.
